Today, there hasn’t been an influx of buzzworthy music but there are definitely some standout tracks that will keep your eardrum tuned in.
Let’s jump right into it....
1: Kiiara | “Feels”
This has to be one of the BEST Alternative RnB songs I have EVER heard in the past 6 years. Homegirl said, “And I got way too many feels...way too much emotion. I don’t even know what’s real...I just say fuck it, keep on going.” I am getting all 28 years from this song. The smooth RnB, melancholy pop sound is easy on the ears. If Ellie Goulding and Kehlani did an album together, this song would give you a great example of how it would sound.
2: RKCB | “Baptize”
Have mercy LAWD. Again, one of the BEST songs I have heard in a looooooooong time. The glittery production compliments RKCB’s vocals very well. It is timeless and the metaphoric lyrics are just amazing. If Anthony Hamilton was still relevant, this is what his sound would mature to.
It just amazes me that there are people, especially from the newer generation, understand what REAL MUSIC is. It’s not about “chasing a hit”....It’s about making music that will transcend time.
Bitch, REPEAT will stay down like LOOP on a jukebox.
3: Gallant | “Bourbon”
If Maxwell and Prince had a romantic rendezvous, Gallant would be the “lovechild”.
Wait... Could you imagine that sex tape?!
This song takes me back to the ‘90s RnB with traces of smooth ‘80s Pop sprinkled throughout. Gallant really delivers the emotion of the song and it is very refreshing. Easily one of my favorite tracks of 2016.
Makes me want to “Redbox and Bendover”....I’m joking....but I’m not.
4: Guordan Banks | “Keep You In Mind”
I go to bed singing this song. I wake up singing this song. It is....how can I put this......just.....EVERYTHING.
The production is so nostalgic. The beat lures you in and his vocal delivery keeps you caught up in the rapture...No Anita Baker. The song is so benevolent. It was released in back in 2015, but radio is just now paying attention.
Radio, the media, and other formats are trying to make “Formation” happen and it is already forgotten just as quickly as it was introduced. But that’s another article. I can’t wait to hear more from Guordan. He will take over.
The Weeknd who...?
5: Meghan Trainor | “No”
This song would be cute if it was 2001 and P!NK was still being guided by LA Reid. The production is dated. The lyrics give us something we’ve already heard before. I’m pretty sure it’ll be a top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit for Miss. Trainor. The girls and “gurls” with low “self-ESTEEN” will live for this song.
However, it’s a NO for me! Don’t try this sound ever again sis.
6: Kendrick Lamar | “untitled” | Surprise Album
