In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, John threw copious amounts of lukewarm shade at Jackson
"You know, fucking music magazines writing a review of Janet Jackson saying, 'This is the greatest show – four and a half stars.' It's fucking lip-synced! Hello! That's not a show! I'd rather go and see a drag queen. Fuck off."
This may be the point where you think the tea has been spilled, and it's time to sip via your biggest tea cup, but the real tea is even better... ;
In 1999, Elton John wrote and produced a concept album based around the Broadway Musical entitled "Aida"..
For the album, John handpicked some of his favorite artists to duet with, including Tina Turner, Lenny Kravitz, Sting, LeAnn Rimes, Kelly Price, Shania Twain, and last but certainly not least... none other than Janet Jackson.
The video is overdubbed with french, but the translation is as follows.
"She's such a great artist. I'm a big fan of her. Her voice is so different from mine. It's very soft very pure very beautiful" - Elton John on Janet Jackson
(Translation by @Fred_Colby)
What were you saying, Elton?
In the video, Elton continues to gush over Janet, stating that she is an "amazing talented" artist, that he's always wanted to work with her, and that he wrote "I Know The Truth" specifically with her in mind.
Perhaps with Janet, Elton's anger stems from the fact that Jackson's most recent effort "Unbreakable", made her the third artist in history, after Barbara Streisand and Bruce Springsteen (and the only African American artist) to have a #1 album in four consecutive decades.
Perhaps a little artistic envy and jealously?
Critics and detractors have criticized Janet's soft voice for years, but one does not have to be a powerhouse vocalist to be a good singer, and Janet Jackson has proven to herself to be great LIVE singer on numerous occasions
And she can still do it in 2016....
