but bitch...you know who she is!
Tinashe has been a force in music for a good minute now. She debuted on the scene back in 2000 as a cute, little model and actress. She got a little older and wiser and came onto the music scene in 2012 with not one, but two mixtapes: "In Case We Die" and "Revere". Both boasted an ecclectic, dark, somber sound with trinkles of sexy and sensuality throughout.
Her debut album, "Aquarius", was helmed by Billboard as one of the most "solid efforts by a debut female artist in years." Tinashe has toured with pop queen Katy Perry, raptress Nicki Minaj, and even has sold out tours of her own. Tinashe even got to tribute her fave, Janet Jackson, at the 2015 BET Awards...but people are still not paying attention as they should.
Let me explain to you why.
Tinashe is in the middle of an industry game I like to call, "Coin Grab". Since RCA acquired Arista, J, and Jive/Zomba...many artists that were once on top before the acquisition is now playing the game alongside her. "Coin Grab" is basically what happens when labels like RCA funnels millions of dollars in artists that they know are going to sell regardless if the music is bullshit or not. Some of the artists signed to this label are Kelly Clarkson, Zayn Malik, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and Justin Timberlake.
Let's use Zayn as an example: Everybody is aware of No...... I mean, One Direction's, bottoms vs. tops feud within that group, right?
Zayn was one of, if not the most popular member to come out of that group. RCA loves drama. Drama sells. So, they funneled millions of dollars into Zayn's solo debut album including promo. The overflow of coin that went into financially backing Zayn is what artists like Ciara, Chris Brown, and Tinashe had to fight over to have a halfway decent album.
That meant RCA stuck them with new producers who don't know how to create a hit or unpopular producers who have fell from grace. So, they're getting stuck with demo songs and leftover tracks because the label doesn't have the money to allow them studio time to write their own tracks and work with more popular producers. That's reason one of why people aren't paying attention Tinashe: lack of time and money which falls under poor development of artists.
Reason two: RCA pushed Tinashe out as a carbon-copy of Aaliyah.
The Aaliyah stans feel that Aaliyah is irreplaceable, which she is...don't get me wrong...but Tinashe's whole style echoes Aaliyah of the 90s and she failing to attract that group of stans who are nostalgic in that sense. Plus, those same stans didn't take it well when Tinashe stated that she's more influenced by Janet than Aaliyah. So, it's like a slap in the face to them.
To be quite honest, the singles Tinashe have released from her upcoming album, "Joyride", just aren't measuring up to '2 On'.
The fans/stans of music today suffer from AD/HD. If you're not giving them the same thing that they heard from you before which got them into you, they're not here for you. Even though I think "Player" slays and should've been a huge success, people slept on it because it was not like '2 On'.
Furthermore, RCA didn't push the song as should because they were gearing up for the debut of Zayn. Tinashe's new single, 'Ride of Your Life', is not doing well and it won't because it's not like '2 On'. I hope I'm making sense...
This is in no way to bash Tinashe. The girl is sexy as fuck, she can dance, and she has a voice. The label is playing off the sexy aspect of her but that's not enough. Her new album, "Joyride", will see major pushbacks which is going to damage her brand. They pushed the album back once so Tinashe could build momentum for the soon-to-be-released album. Lack of promotion from RCA atop of a push back will see "JR" not being released anytime soon. The common denominator in this situation is who? RCA.
As long as Tinashe is signed to RCA, she will always be seen as an "Aaliyah-wannabe." She has the potential to be an ascending universal music phenomenon....but RCA will keep her as an earthbound entertainment theory so that her labelmates can rise. It's not fair, but when has the entertaiment industry ever been fair?
I'm still rooting for you Tinashe and please take my advice: Don't walk, BUT RUN FROM RCA!
